I wrote an article earlier about the Kodak Z740 that I purchased back in November and thought that I would do a quick update.
The Kodak Z740 has bee na a great camera compared to the old Nikon Coolpix 775 that we have been using the last couple of years. The main problem that we had with the Coolpix 775 was the slowness in taking a picture after pressing the button, the quality of the pictures and of course the limitations of two megapixels.
The Kodak Z740 has been great. The pictures are sharp and crisp, the speed of the camera is good especially on non sport times when you do have a few seconds to compose a picture, and the time from shutter to memory card is good. The only drawback so far is that when you use the burst mode and take a half dozen pictures quickly it fills the cache and can take up to a minute to transfer those pictures to the memory card.
If I was shopping for a camera again I would still pick up a Kodak Z740 as the price is really low for the features and the megapixel level. In thinking about who this camera is definietly not for i would have to say that if you take a lot of action pictures or attend a photograph spotring events then this may not be the camera for you.
Having said this I have two young kids and after three month have lost maybe a half a dozen pictues at most to the subject moving before I could get the picture off.
Happy Shooting!

When dealing with digital camera prices, avoid your natural tendency of “buy low, sell high.” What do we mean?
Let’s say you’re interested in purchasing a Canon digital SLR. Once you’re sure you have identified your ideal camera, you search the internet and photography magazines for the best price. In this example, the “retail” price for the Canon body is $700 (remember - SLRs are only the camera body, which can be mated to a variety of individually purchased lenses).
After checking a variety of sources for discounted digital camera prices, you determine the best prices for this specific Canon digital SLR runs between $570-$590. What do you do?
I buy it from the place selling it for $570, of course!

Here is another article with some more information on what to look for in a digital camera. Please keep in mind that although this article was written just back in October it mentions 2-3 mega pixel camera as being good for printing. I am not sure that we can even find that small a mega pixel rating now but with a bigger pixel count you have a better opportunity to crop the picture you get to get the best picture printed possible.
Today, while you go shopping for ‘feature-rich’ digital cameras physically or on the Internet, often you will find manufacturers running out of their ways, telling “this camera takes great pictures.” And which photo-enthusiast of our times will fail to equate ‘great pictures’ with great resolutions? Well, with today’s 3, 4 or 5 mega pixel digital cameras offering the flexibility of digital zooms, storing high-resolution images on their memory cards and an LCD panel that shows 100% of the subject, you will get digital images of superb quality; whether you want to print posters or put your images online.
With manufacturers recognizing a market for simple, sleek and sophisticated cameras in all pixel categories, today you can find basic point-and-shoot digicams, with resolutions typically ranging from one-mega pixel at the low end to six-megapixels in professional-grade equipment. And here, the bottomline is, the more pixels a camera has, the sharper the images it produces.

In part one of this two part series we got a chance to learn about F stops. In this section we get to learn a little bit more, this time about shutter speeds.
In part 1 of: Get the most out of your camera, we looked at how to use the aperture and the creative uses of depth-of-field. In this part we’ll look at how to use the shutter button on your camera and how both the shutter and the aperture control exposure.
The shutter is a mechanical device that controls the length of time that light is allowed to act on the film.
Most standard cameras allow us to use a range between 16 second and 1/1000 second. You might be wondering, why anyone would use a long shutter time of 16 seconds: I’ve used this and even longer shutter times when taken lowlight landscape images. I would always advise the use of a tripod with these long exposures time to avoid blur images.
Using a shutter speed of 1/125 second should safely avoid overall blur due to camera movement if you hold the camera by hand. Any longer shutter time should require a tripod.
Each time you open the shutter by one, we double the light, when we close down the light by one we half the light. Open the shutter at 1 second allows twice the light as that of a ½ second.
The shutter can also be used creatively when taking landscape images or sport images. If you want to add motion to your image a slow shutter speed can give an image an extra bit of sway. No more so than taking images of streams. Using a slow shutter speed when photographing water will cause the water to blur, resulting with the image expressing motion.

All digital cameras come with options to shoot different scenes but my new Kodak digital camera also had features that only SLRs used to have and that is the use of F stops as well as selectable shutter speeds. I have always been interested in this kind of thing so I hopped onto the internet and found the following first part of a two part article.
Would you like to take wildlife pictures like you see in magazines, or even turn everyday objects into photographic art?
Did you ever see an image where only a small part of it is sharp? Using the aperture ring correctly can maximise the artistic look of your image.
Not only does it determine the depth-of-field, it also has the power to direct the human eye.
The human eye is instinctively drawn towards noticeable points of an image. These are usually the sharpest and most important parts of an image. Using a wide aperture to limit the area of sharp focus can direct attention to the most important elements of your image and blur out any off-putting backgrounds.
This isn’t that hard to accomplish, and can be blissful if done correctly.
Lets start off with understanding depth-of-field, aperture and f/stops.

I have posted a lot of reviews of digital cameras but have now found a great buyers guide to digital Cameras as well. When you are out there shopping everyone tries to balance megapixels, sharpness, modes, scene settings, shutter response time, and of course price. There are a ton of companies offering Digital Cameras from Kodak, Canon, Panasonic, FujiFilm, Nikon and a ton more. Here is a great article from Content Articles and Olga Sen that covers the cameras in depth
With the advent of modern scientific tools, life has become highly sophisticated. One of the fine examples of evolution is the advent and craze for digital cameras. A digital camera is equipped with an electronic photosensitive sensor. The photographs are stored digitally in the in-built memory of the camera or onto a memory card and can be uploaded on a computer for viewing emailing or printing. There is no need for buying films or getting them processed with these modern gadgets.
The current demand for cameras can be traced back to the 16th century, although modern film cameras did not really exist until the late 1800’s people have used the cameras to capture the history or larger-than-life-events. As the science has expanded in this ever-shrinking world, the expansion of camera technology has soared to new heights. From the normal camera, the world has stepped into the era of digital cameras. These cameras have brought in a complete revolution in the camera industry.
The features of digital camera are so unique and advanced, that handling the camera has become a child’s play. Before you go and buy your digital camera, you should know some basic information on these modern weapons. You must pick the right camera to capture your precious moments.

I have created a new website for buying a digital camera.
Digital cameras have become one of the most popular tech purchases over the last five years and before that they did not even exist. One of the things that I have really tried to do with my new site is to make sure that in the process of buying a digital camera you are able to find the information that you need. If you do a Google search for Digital Camera you will find 105 million results. I can surf pretty quickly but I am sure that I could not get through 105 million sites today. This was the real reason for my creation of this site.
More often then not you will find that Canon is the most respected manufacturer when if comes to digital cameras but there are many other brands, for instance I just bought a Kodak 740 digital camera for the features and price. I did a lot of research reading articles before I got serious about looking at any particular digital camera so I made sure that I had links to a lot of digital camera articles that are sometimes biased articles and sometimes very objective articles on digital cameras.
Another thing that I found really helped me was searching through all of the best websites to do with the camera I was looking for. I did not go to 105 million sites but instead tried to hit the best ones that I could find. The Digital Camera website also has a list of the top 10 websites for each subject so at the very least you will not have to pick and pick through sites until you find what you are looking for.
In looking at the new digital camera site that I have created I hope that you will find a wealth of info and of course a great directory on what is the next step for you in your camera buying quest.
Good luck and happy shopping!
