Si, stay, fetch is a huge book, but not to worry, it’s all very well-organized. The detailed Table of Contents is several pages long…gee, I sound like a librarian saying that, don’t I? But what I liked about that is how easy it is to get an overview of what is covered or find a topic you are thinking about. (I couldn’t think of any dog problems that aren’t covered!) Then, on Page 12, there’s a handy chart that shows you how all the sections relate.
When you read Sit Stay Fetch, the how-to information alternates with interesting stories of how someone solved the canine problem under discussion. I liked this because it made the reading flow very smoothly but also because I think we humans learn well from stories.
The sound files are basically the different chapters. I put one on my portable mp3 player and listened to it the other morning while exercising. I had already read the chapter, so I didn’t think I’d learn much, but I was surprised. We take things in differently through our ears, and I picked up several points that I hadn’t noticed when reading. The videos fill out various topics. Both adults and children would like them, I imagine.
It’s true everyone wants an obedient dog. There’s that personal satisfaction you get when your dog responds correctly with a single command. Even better is coming home and not finding any undesirable surprises.
With a well-trained dog, your lives together are much more rewarding. You dog is happy, you’re pleased and and you’ll enjoy each other’s company for a long time to come.
Besides, there’s a certain sense of accomplishment knowing you’ve broken the barrier between human and animal, and developed a harmonious relationship.
There’s a more important reason to train your dog well. The right training could possibly save your dog’s life.
All too often, owners don’t quite know how to achieve this lofty goal. They try what they think is right, or apply the dog training methods their parents used to train the family pet. Anyway, do you know what likely happens when he does eat it? He throws it up later. If you have not had to clean this up, just think about cleaning it up off of your living room carpet. It is simply disgusting I tell you. Having a way to rid him of this problem is heaven.
Then there is that leash tugging annoyance. I just hate walking a dog that tugs on the leash. I stop this problem as soon as possible. Walking a dog that stays by your side most all of the way makes for a pleasant and relaxing walk. Daniel effectively teaches how to do this.
